SOUTHERN ANGOLA FAM TRIP

Between dunes and more dunes, about 80 km from the mouth of the Cunene and the southern limit of Angola, an unexpected island guards what remains of an old village built by daring fishermen from the Algarve. This village became the most important fishing center in the colony, contributing significantly to the advancement of the district of Moçâmedes. The half-buried structures of the small village, founded around 1865, show us how it was organized, divided by a single street that also served as an airstrip. In 1975, Baía dos Tigres was abandoned, and the village, isolated, without drinking water or transport, succumbed to definitive abandonment. In addition to the abundance of fish and marine animals, among which turtles stand out, Baía dos Tigres is very rich in species of birds that nest there.

The Iona National Park, under the management of African Parks, is gaining another dynamic, aiming at the conservation, restoration and revitalization of its ecosystem, where we can clearly observe the resurgence of animal life.

The south of Angola is very rich in cultural diversity, inhabited by several unique peoples with their own characteristics. Some keep their culture intact, while others, in the vicinity of urban centers, adopt practices different from their ancestral culture.

In this adventure of cultural immersion and knowledge, we take you to experience the best of the habits and customs of these peoples, to feel their particularities, to appreciate the beauty of their way of life, to understand our origins, the present and to envision the future.
